Lorinser’s Statement on Rep. Bergman’s failed Speaker bid

During the second round of voting in the GOP conference, Rep. Jack Bergman’s bid for Speaker failed this morning, which may have elicited a collective sigh of relief from every informed voter in Northern Michigan and the UP.

I sincerely hope the GOP nominates a Speaker who can unite both parties and solve problems. We knew that person wasn’t Jack Bergman. He misrepresented himself as a “unifier” without an agenda, but it’s far from the truth.

Jack Bergman does not live in the district he represents. He voted against certifying the 2020 Presidential Election, and his inappropriate actions in an election lawsuit ignited the Big Lie that led to Jan. 6. He votes against our district and with the Freedom Caucus 90% of the time.

Bergman has “F” grades from every organization that represents everyday American workers, and he voted in favor of unfunded tax cuts for billionaires and giant corporations that led to the third-largest deficit in US history.

My opponent also wants to cut Social Security and privatize Medicare.

To get better leadership in Washington, to improve our Nation’s progress, and to solve real issues in a functioning government, we must start by electing better leaders. Every day, I strive to be that for residents in Northern Michigan and the UP.

In 2024, we must defeat anyone who violated their oath to the US Constitution and encourage a new type of politics based on collaboration, cooperation, and a collective vision to get things done for the American people.

Let’s work together to save Social Security, fight for Medicare for All, and put American workers back on the pedestal where they belong.
